Why do so many Canadians think they have a right to dictate U.S. domestic policy?
I’m a liberal gay American (and I really don’t care what anyone thinks about it), so I would normally agree with a lot of liberals from other countries, but something I’ve noticed is that a lot of Canadians are always on here commenting on US domestic issues.
"America should have universal health care. Like ours. We have the best health care system in the world here in Canada."
"America should ban guns. They’re dangerous. They kill people. Guns are banned here in Canada. That’s why we’re the safest country on earth."
"Americans should build more wind farms. They need more wind farms. We have wind farms in Canada. That’s why we’re the best."
I just don’t get it – why do they think they have a right to tell us what to do when it comes to domestic issues? I have NEVER seen or heard an American dictate what Canada should do when it comes to their domestic issues. For 4 years I lived near the Canadian border, and I thought that would be nice, until I discovered what the majority of Canadians shopping in our malls are like. I once heard a Canadian girl at the mall say "the traffic lights are weird here in the states, they hang from wires, it’s like a third world country, gross." They make so many ignorant comments, yet we Americans are always told that we’re the ignorant ones. That’s ironic, because I’ve never heard an American dictate what another country should do within their own borders (or complain about what traffic signals look like).
So what’s the deal with Canadians?
Rupert. No. Just … no. They actually don’t, and that’s fine … they just don’t need to be bi-tches about it.
Canadians want to feel like they actually matter when they are basically parasites. They wouldn’t survive without the US. They are jealous and resentful of Americans. Canada is a parliamentary democracy and a constitutional monarchy, with Queen Elizabeth II as its head of state; England’s stepchild. Canada is never a leader, always a follower.
Canada has universal health care because it is not obliged to pay for its own defense, instead hiding behind our skirts while biting our ankle.

I feel your pain, my friend. Actually, my problem isn’t so much with Canadians commenting on US policy, it’s when those SAME Canadians then have the nerve to turn around and shush me when I venture an opinion on Canadian politics. "Keep your nose out of our affairs", I’ve been told. How is it these people feel the right to comment on one’s neighbors affairs only goes one direction?
In fairness, I have to admit the average Canadian is much more knowlesgeable about our politics than the average American is about theirs. While ever Canadian can tell you who the President of the US is, I’d venture to guess 60% might know who the PM of Canada is…and sadly, I’m being very generous in that guess. That doesn’t change the fact that I live near the border, travel to Canada frequently, do business there, and follow Canadian politics closely. I’m not just slinging arrows, so when I get shushed, it really grinds me.

Interesting rant.
Canada is a very liberal country. They do have all of those things you spoke of but it comes at a price.
Americans will soon be weak and puny like Canada. Heck. America will be weak and puny as France.
I don’t think Canada is dictating anything to the US. Many of them admire us our freedoms, our pride and our strength. But that is all changing now.

That has got to be the biggest joke ever. Over the last 100 years the US has done nothing but interfere with the domestic policy of almost every nation on earth. We have invaded dozens of countries because we didn’t like their leaders or their policies, we give billions of dollars in foreign aid with strings attached to get countries to do what we want, and we threaten to cut off trade with nations that don’t obey our economic policy, and so on and so on.

Guns aren’t exactly illegal in Canada, they’re just heavily regulated. (http://laws.justice.gc.ca/en/F-11.6/text.html)
I guess they kind of see us the way we see Mexicans. They like being able to come here are shop cheap, but they also appreciate being able to go home to their cleaner country at the end of the day.
One thing that is different is the medical industry. Because they have taken a more socialist approach, there are times that Canadian citizens have to come to the United States and pay money to receive services that are so elite, that it requires free market funding and development to provide them. On the other hand, they have a better handle on illegal immigration, so they are not giving social services to non-contributors the way the U.S. does.
If I was more average and wouldn’t have to take a big pay cut to do it, I wouldn’t mind moving to Canada.
